In Notepad++, there isn’t a direct option to save all unsaved files at once. However, you can use a workaround to achieve a similar result by utilizing the backup feature. Follow these steps:
- In Notepad++, go to the “Settings” menu in the top navigation and select “Preferences.”
- In the Preferences window, navigate to the “Backup” section on the left side.
- Enable the “Enable session snapshot and periodic backup” option by checking the box.
- Adjust the backup settings according to your preferences. You can set the backup interval and the number of backups to keep.
- Click on the “Close” button to exit the Preferences window.
Now, whenever you have unsaved files in Notepad++, the program will create automatic backup files at the specified interval. These backups will be stored in a temporary location.
To recover the unsaved files:
- Close all instances of Notepad++.
- Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the backup location. By default, the backups are stored in a subdirectory of the Notepad++ installation folder called “backup.”
- Look for the backup files with the “.bak” extension. These files represent the unsaved content.
- Copy the “.bak” files to a safe location where you want to keep your recovered files.
- Change the file extension of each “.bak” file to the appropriate extension. For example, if you were editing a text file, change the extension from “.bak” to “.txt.”
Now you have recovered the unsaved files as regular files with the changes you made. Remember to save them manually in the future to avoid relying on the backup workaround.
